For the third part of our webinar series, we are delighted to welcome Joyce Gachugi –Waweru. Currently serving as the CEO at PAKPRO®, Joyce is steering the company towards excellence in the Circular Economy sector. Under her guidance, PAKPRO® has emerged as a pioneer in Extended Producer Responsibility, seamlessly integrating environmental and social considerations into its core business operations.

In Kenya, the implementation of EPR involves working closely with informal sector stakeholders to ensure effective and fair waste management and recycling practices. This webinar aims to highlight the challenges and successes of integrating the informal sector into PAKPRO’s operations, showcasing the innovative strategies and partnerships that have been developed to promote sustainable waste management in Kenya.

We are also pleased to welcome Griffins Ochieng, the Co-Founder and Executive Director from Kenya’s Centre for Environment Justice and Development (CEJAD). CEJAD plays a leading role in advancing Kenya’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework with a strong focus on social inclusion and practical implementation. Building on the new EPR regulations, CEJAD works with the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), county governments and Producer Responsibility Organizations (PROs) like PAKPRO to clarify roles, strengthen accountability, and translate legal requirements into accessible guidance for all stakeholders.

A core pillar of CEJAD’s approach is the meaningful inclusion of waste pickers as recognized waste service providers within Kenya’s EPR system. This webinar will spotlight concrete strategies, tools, and lessons learned that CEJAD is deploying to bridge gaps between policy and practice, foster collaboration between PROs, counties, and waste pickers, and enable effective, equitable EPR implementation in Kenya
