While Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) systems can provide a solution to plastic pollution in the Global South, stakeholders have raised the question of how EPR systems can support a Just Transition which leaves no one behind. In this session various stakeholders will discuss roles and necessary steps in this process.

The world is looking at Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) systems as a possible solution to plastic pollution. Many countries in the Global South are currently designing and implementing EPR systems. During this process, stakeholders raised the question of how this can be done in a way that is as fair and inclusive as possible to everyone concerned, creating decent work opportunities and leaving no one behind. In this session, various stakeholders will discuss which roles they can assume in this process and in particular which technical, regulatory and practical conditions need to be taken into account.

The event is hosted in joint collaboration between the PREVENT Waste Alliance working group on social inclusion, and the Global Action Partnership for Extended Producer Responsibility (GAP for EPR).
